Good morning to all teachers and students present here. I am here and got a chance to deliver a speech on Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda was a Great writer, scholar, thinker, monk and philosopher of India. He was born on January 12, 1863, in the city of Calcutta.
His original name was Narendra Nath Dutta. His father name was Vishwanath Dutta who was a well educated man who had profound knowledge of both English and Persian. He was a successful Lawyer in the supreme court of Calcutta. His mother was a strong lady who influenced her son from his childhood. She played a major role in shaping the character of Naren.
She first taught Naren English lessons and made him familiar with the Bengali alphabets also. Naren studied in the Metropolitan Institution at Calcutta and after passing the examination, He graduated from an English college in Calcutta and completed his B.A., and further studied law. But after his father’s death, his family’s financial condition did not allow him to continue further study. He was an excellent singer. One day Ramakrishna Paramahansa Listened him singing a devotional song. He asked the young Naren to meet him at the Kali temple. Naren was very keen to see God. He asked many religious saints about his desire, but no answers from anyone could satisfy him.
Ramakrishna Paramahansa said to Naren that as one can see the God, he can also see god in the same form. However, he was not convinced by the Guru’s words. He wanted the saint to demonstrate it to him. As time passed, Naren had that wonderful heavenly experience in his life. He became the most disciplined student of the saint. His Guru taught him the most important lesson that influenced his life greatly that we can experience God by serving humanity.
Swami Vivekananda Ramakrishna mission
With his teaching of life, Naren later established the Ramakrishna Mission on 1st May 1897 which is still working at engaged in offering voluntary welfare work for the poor and the needy people. After becoming a monk Naren was named Swami Vivekananda. He visited America to participate in the parliament of world religions held in Chicago in 1893.
In his deep lecture, Swami Vivekananda explained the world that God is the one big sea, and all religions are like rivers ultimately merging in the sea. According to him, there should not be any type of dispute among the followers of various religions that they worship God in separate forms or with different beliefs.
